Since its founding in 1963, Lamborghini has been synonymous with luxury, performance, and style. Over the decades, the Italian automaker’s vehicles have become some of the world’s most sought-after. In particular, certain Lamborghini models have achieved stratospheric prices at auction, garnering huge attention from car enthusiasts and collectors alike. From classic models that launched Lamborghini to the modern-day hypercars, here’s a list of the most expensive Lamborghinis ever sold.
The Iconic Lamborghini Miura
The Lamborghini Miura was the car that put Lamborghini on the map. Released in 1966, the Miura was designed by the legendary Marcello Gandini and was a revolutionary design. It had its engine mounted transversely in the middle of the car and was the first production car to have its wheels pushed out to the edges of the car. The ever popular Miura also featured a striking exterior design and was even James Bond’s preferred ride at one point.
In 2018, a pristine 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV fetched an astounding $2.3 million USD at the Gooding & Company auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. It was sold to an anonymous buyer and was the highest amount ever paid for any Miura of any generation.
The Lamborghini Reventon
The Lamborghini Reventon is an extremely rare model that was limited to only 20 units worldwide. It was released in 2008 and was based on the Murciélago LP640. It features a radical exterior styling and is even officially described as “the most powerful and technologically advanced Lamborghini ever built.”
At an RM Sotheby’s auction in 2019, a 2009 version of the Reventon was sold for a staggering $2.64 million USD, making it one of the most expensive Lamborghini models ever sold.
The Lamborghini Veneno
The Lamborghini Veneno is a limited production supercar based on the Aventador and was unveiled in Geneva Motor Show in 2013. The Veneno was a special edition model to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Lamborghini and only 9 units were produced.
The Veneno is powered by a monstrous 6.5L V12 engine that produces 740 horsepower and is capable of hitting a top speed of 221 mph. It’s also extremely rare and highly desirable, leading to sky-high prices when sold at auction. In 2018, a 2014 version of the Veneno was sold at an RM Sotheby’s auction in Monaco for an eye-popping $8.3 million USD.
The Lamborghini Sesto Elemento
The Lamborghini Sesto Elemento is another limited production model that was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 2010. Only 20 Sesto Elementos were built, making it an extremely rare collector’s item.
The Sesto Elemento uses an optimized version of the V10 engine found in the Gallardo and is capable of producing 570 horsepower. It’s even made of carbon fiber and, combined with the lightweight construction, is capable of reaching 0-60 mph in just 2.5 seconds.
At an auction in 2018, a Sesto Elemento sold for $3.3 million USD.
The Lamborghini Aventador J
The Lamborghini Aventador J is an open-top version of the Aventador that was first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012. It was limited to just one example, making it a truly unique collector’s item. The exterior design is similar to the conventionally powered Aventador but the J features an open-top configuration.
The Aventador J packs a monstrous 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 that produces 690 horsepower and 509lb-ft of torque. In 2012, it was sold at a Geneva auction for $2.77 million USD.
When it comes to collectible cars, Lamborghini models have always had a reputation for commanding astronomical prices. With their outstanding design and engineering, it’s easy to see why they have achieved such renown. The list of the most expensive Lamborghinis ever sold is a testament to the marque’s legendary status and its timeless appeal.
